This pair of pantaloons date from the second half of the 1850's. They are entirely handmade and would have been worn by a girl around the age of 7 to 9. The legs are straight and rectangular. There is no decoration on them except for two pleats at the bottom of each leg. These would have been let out as she grew.
The pantaloons are made out of a very heavy cotton. The waist is pleated around the waistband, as was typical of the era. They were owned by the Bland family as the above crinolines were. There is a 'B' embroidered on the waistband. They would have been worn long down the leg of the girl and would have showed out from beneath her crinoline
They measure 35" long from waistband to bottom, and have a 22" waist. Fastens at the back with a linen covered button.
