C.1840-1845. An openwork bonnet
made out of straw
interwoven with horsehair and straw braid. Similar in style to a coal shuttle bonnet, this one is slightly longer
at the sides
as a remnant of former poke bonnet styles.
The bonnet originally was lined
in fine china silk at the back but this has mostly gone. A modern white
lining was added in by a conservator to stabilize the delicate straw work.(Formerly L. Hidic)
