C. late 1840's. Probably was a wedding waistcoat due to the fact it doesn't look like it was worn a lot. Made out of the most wonderful silk damask you have ever felt, it has a pattern of roses with their thorns woven into it.
of the waistcoat and the lining on the inside is made out of cotton. Fastens at the front with 5 self covered buttons and has a front pocket.
What's so wonderful about it, is the amount of work that went into making it. It's completely handsewn with tiny little stitches. Measurements: Length about 23 1/2", Shoulders: it would fit 18" - 19" shoulders, Chest: 36", Waist: 34", however there are ties at the back to make it accomodate different waist sizes. (Formerly L.
