Young Woman's Regency Bodice
c.1828- 30. This is a lovely bodice and is in near mint condition, it makes me wonder if it was worn at all. Judging by the color, fabric and lack of wear, it was probably part of a special occasion outfit, maybe for attending a wedding. Made out of the softest cream silk satin you have ever felt, it feels like it could melt in your hands!
So much work went into making this for a very lucky young lady as every single seam in the bodice is piped
! The bodice is completely handsewn with minute stitches and it's lined
in beige glazed cotton. The sleeves are lovely short and puffed. The bodice isn't boned and is fairly shortwaisted with a wide scooped neckline. Fastens at the back
with brass hooks.
'May H'. is written in old ink on the inside silk taffeta waistband.
The bust measures 26", waist 20" and the bodice measures 11 1/2" long. There is slight wear to the silk on the left breast, and the waistband has become a bit unfolded at the bottom. (Formerly from the collection of Leila Hidic)
