An antique Victorian over-bodice dating from the mid 1870's. It is made from handmade heavy cotton lace and has a peplum at the back to accommodate a bustle skirt. This would have been worn over a blouse and I have only ever seen one similar example and that was in a CDV photograph! Fastens at the front with hooks.
The bodice is in very good condition with no breaks in the lace that I can see. The only fault being some slight darkening to the fabric at the right underarm but this does not detract from the garment.
Although the bodice is strong enough to display, I do not recommend wearing antique clothing although it could be worn briefly for a photo. A VERY small size, probably made for a young teenage girl. Bust measures 28", Waist measures 24", length is approx. 22".
