VICTORIAN 1870
A late 1870's white cotton chemise which would have been worn underneath a corset. It has hand embroidered cutwork trim around the wide neckline and short sleeve along with narrow pintucks at the chest area. The throat fastens wit a hidden button. Machine sewn with tiny stitches.
The chemise is in good strong wearable condition but does have numerous brown/light yellow age spots and small marks of different sizes from use and over 100 years of storage. There are also three rust colored lines at the center back, this was caused by the original wearer's corset (before metal was "rust proof"! No holes or tears and can be worn today with your Victorian outfit.
Shoulders measure approx. 20" (but these are dropped shoulder seams)- would suit shoulders up to 16". Bust measures 46" (this was mean to be worn loose so a bust of up to 38"/40" would suit this), Waist/Hips measures 60", Length from shoulder to hem is 41 1/2".
