C. 1900- 1901. An early Edwardian pouched front bodice, possibly a mourning bodice, as it's made from matte coloured slubby weave black cotton (which would have been appropriate for mourning use) and trimmed with black lace and bands of black silk velvet. The bodice has a separate high standing collar and is lined on the inside with black silk taffeta.
The bodice is in good displayable condition but is too fragile to be worn. The taffeta at the neckline is shattering (this is covered by the high collar however) and the lining, although 99% intact, has a few shatter splits. As long as it is stored properly and is not worn, then it will be fine.
Measurements are for reference only: Bust 34", Waist 28".
