C. 1930's. A pair of beautiful and feminine "tap panties" made from
white silky smooth "Art silk", a rayon fabric first discovered in
the Edwardian era. The leg cuffs have hand embroidered silk thread flowers and medallions with cutwork and hand rolled hems. The panties fasten at the left hip with snaps, shell buttons and hand worked button holes. Machine sewing with hand finishing.
I was lucky enough to acquire one ladies complete
underwear trousseau from the 1930's which was lovingly packed away in an old vintage
suitcase all these years. The lady's daughter said that her mother
used to buy her fabrics from France and have the underwear made up
elsewhere, sometime by nuns! Please see my other listings for the rest of
the gorgeous items from this lady's trousseau and prepare to be dazzled!
The pair is in near excellent condition, they do not appear to have ever have been worn. There are some small sized brown age spots (about pin head size) here and there from 70+ years of storage (nothing that detracts from the look of the panties) but the fabric is still strong with no rips or holes.
