C. 1930's. A two piece set consisting of a long lace trimmed chemise and a pair of matching tap panties both made from sunny yellow finely woven silk. I was lucky enough to acquire one ladies complete underwear trousseau from the 1930's which was lovingly packed away in an old vintage suitcase all these years. The lady's daughter said that her mother used to buy her fabrics from France and have the underwear made up elsewhere, sometime by nuns! Please see my other listings for the rest of the gorgeous items from this lady's trousseau and prepare to be dazzled!
The chemise and tap panties both have matching brown cotton lace trim (looks to be handworked) along with the same handworked flowers with net centers seen on the bust of the chemise and the side leg cuffs of the panties. The panties fasten at the left side with handworked buttons. Both items are completely handsewn, the hem of the chemise being handrolled as well.
This set is in near mint condition as it was NEVER worn! The chemise's spaghetti shoulder straps were never finished being sewn on! The only nit picky fault i can find are the odd pin head sized age spot which is typical of old natural content fabrics.
This set is a large and TALL size. I am 5'9" and the chemise is plenty long enough for me although I think it would probably swamp anyone shorter than me. The bust measures 44" but would suit a 40"- 42" bust (my bust is 38" and it was a bit big in the bust for me), waist measures approx. 40" and hips are approx. 60" but this was meant to be worn loose. Length from the top of the lace trim to hem is 39", the actual 17 1/2" shoulder strap was not included in this measurement as since it's not sewn on at one end, you can adjust it to your own size.
Pantie waist measures 34" (best fit a waist of 30"- 33"), Hips measure Hips measure approx. 48" (best fit a hip of 38"- 42" for ease of fit), Length from waist to hem is approx. 19".
