C. late 1930's. A lovely long ice blue rayon satin slip gown with a gathered bust which looks like it would have been fit for a silver screen movie star of the era! I was lucky enough to acquire one ladies complete underwear trousseau from the 1930's which was lovingly packed away in an old vintage suitcase all these years. The lady's daughter said that her mother used to buy her fabrics from France and have the underwear made up elsewhere, sometime by nuns! The gown has a pointed waistline and shoulder straps made from ecru machine net with blue satin flowers handworked onto it. Brown handworked lace (which feels like it may be silk or a silk/cotton blend) trims the shoulder straps and top of the slip. The bottom hem is handrolled. The slip is completely handsewn with tiny stitches. Comes with it's original muslin envelope cover.
The gown is in very good wearable condition but does have some light yellow age spotting scattered throughout the bias cut skirt which is typical in fabric with natural content like rayon or cotton. No rips, tears or holes. A stunning gown which deserves to be worn again!
This is a large and TALL size, you will need to be at least 5'8" to wear this- I am 5'9" and it touches the floor on me. Bust measures approx. 45" (will suit a 40"- 42" bust, my bust is 38" and I didn't fill it out properly!), Waist measures approx. 38" (will suit a 30"- 34" waist), Hips measure 50"+ but would suit hips up to 44". Length from shoulder to hem is 64".
