C. 1930's. A elegant long slip or nightgown made from bias cut Tearose Pink silky smooth "Art silk", a rayon fabric first discovered in the Edwardian era. I was lucky enough to acquire one ladies complete underwear trousseau from the 1930's which was lovingly packed away in an old vintage suitcase all these years. The lady's daughter said that her mother used to buy her fabrics from France and have the underwear made up elsewhere, sometime by nuns! Please see my other listings for the rest of the gorgeous items from this lady's trousseau and prepare to be dazzled!
The gown is encrusted with floral hand worked appliques which are sewn onto machine net lace. At the left bottom front side and right bottom back side, flowers with net centers are worked into the fabric. The back has an unusual three strap style shoulder strap! Comes with it's original muslin envelope cover.
The gown is in very good condition but does have light rust colored marks (each approx. 1" to 2" wide) going down the left side towards the side seam and the odd pin head sized spot here and there. No rips, tears or holes. The gown is entirely handsewn.
It is a rare TALL and large size as well!! You will have to be at least 5'8" to wear this, I am 5'9" and it reaches the floor on me. Because the fabric is cut on the bias, you will need curves to show it off properly, my dress form is much too small for it to do it justice. The bust measures approx. 44" (will fit a 40"- 42" bust, my bust is 38" and it was a bit big in the bust for me), Waist measures approx. 36" (will fit a 30"- 34" waist), Hips measure 46" (will fit hips up to 42"/44"), Length from shoulder to hem is approx. 61 1/2" (my tape measure ran out!).
