LATE 1860
A late 1860's summer hat made from finely woven straw (woven and sewn together just like the spoon bonnets of the era) and trimmed with brown and beige velvet with a brown feather at the front. This hat would have been worn on the top of the head, slightly tilting forward foreshadowing the REALLY forward tilting styles of the 1870's! It is lined in spotted muslin and white paper.
The hat is in very good displayable condition (I even wore it once, see photo five!), with light general wear from over 140 years of existing! The only fault really being that the feather is broken in half although it doesn't detract from the look of the hat and the lining is a bit dirty. There are no breaks in the straw.
Hat measures approx. 11" long and approx. 6" wide.
