A very rare ladies leather jacket from the 1940's made from medium brown suede kidskin. The jacket was made by Dent's, the famous kid gloves manufacturer and the leather quality is exactly the same as their vintage kidskin gloves that they used to make. The jacket has the typical 1940's wide, padded shoulders and has a contrasting plain leather fold down collar (not suede). The body of the jacket is pleated and goes in at the waist. It still has it's original belt but the Bakelite slide buckle has broken in half. You can still wear it as is as I have shown but enough Bakelite buckles survive from the 30's and 40's that you can find a nicer one to replace it and have a good shoe repair man sew it on. It has two slash pockets and fastens with a metal zipper. The inside of the jacket has the Dent's label saying that it is made from "Mazurka leather" and is lined in beige nylon (which feels like it has some rayon content as well).
The jacket is in very good condition and has a nice aged patina to it. The plain leather collar does have wear/sweat marks to it as well as some scuffs but this lends to the age of the jacket and does not detract from it. The suede kidskin has some small pencil head sized dark spots here and there on the jacket form use and age but again, this lends to the patina of the coat and are not glaringly obvious. The lining has some dirt marks/light wear from age but nothing that shows on the outside. All the suede kidskin is buttery soft and supple.
The size on the old label states that it is a size 38. My bust and hips both measure 38" and this fits like it was made for me. The hips are VERY close fitting on it and will will NOT fit hips larger than 38".
Shoulders measure 17" but most of this are the wide 40's shoulder pads- will fit shoulders of 16"- 16 1/2", Bust measures 41" (will fit a 38" bust perfectly), Waist measures 32" (will fit a 30" waist), Hips measure 40" (will fit 36"- 38" hips), Jacket length from the nape of the neck to hem is 27", Sleeve length is 23 1/2". I am 5'9" and the length was good on me although the sleeves could have done with being a bit longer for me.
This jacket would suit being worn with a slim fitting 40's style skirt but I have shown it with my slim fit hip hugger jeans to show how versatile it can be.
