A 1940's sun dress and matching bolero of American origin, made from a peachy orange cotton with brown whip stitching at the edges. The outfit is homemade and the dress fastens at the left side with a metal zipper. The bolero jacket fastens at the neck with a hook. The dress originally had a belt but this is now gone although the belt loops are still there to add your own (a nice brown leather belt would look nice!)
The outfit is in very good condition with some light wear from use and age. There are small brown age spots throughout the outfit which is typical of old cotton but most of them, including the largest of them (which measure about 1/4") are at the back of the bolero (see photo six for an example of the spotting on the jacket). I think the front of the dress originally had whip stitching but it looks like this as removed at some point as some very faint stitch holes remain. It looks fine as is without the stitching or you can add your own if you are feeling creative! No underarm staining and the dress is strong enough to be worn.
Dress measurements: Bust measures approx. 39"/40" (will fit a 38" bust- this is my size and this fits me well), Waist measures 31" (will fit a 28"-30" waist, my waist is 30" and this fits me), Hips measure 44" (will fit hips up to 40"). Bodice length from shoulder to waistline is 16 1/2", total length is 40". I am 5'9" and a UK size 12/14 (US 10/12) and although the dress fits perfectly measurement wise, the length is ever too short proportioned for my height. I recommend an average height of 5'5"- 5'7", maybe a shortwaisted 5'8" for this dress.
Bolero measurements: Shoulder will fit up to 16 1/2", Back length is 17"
